While many providers offer Invisalign these days, there’s a distinct advantage when you go to an orthodontist for your treatment: we have received specialized training in how to safely and effectively move teeth. We also offer other options for straightening teeth, so we’re able to fully evaluate your needs and recommend the solution that is the best for your unique circumstances.
What Is Invisalign?
Traditional metal braces are effective, but some patients want to straighten their teeth in a way that doesn’t bring as much attention to their smiles. In such cases, Invisalign is an ideal solution. This advanced orthodontic system uses a series of clear plastic aligners to straighten teeth and correct bites, rather than wires and brackets that are cemented in place.
As you advance through each set of Invisalign aligners, your teeth will slowly begin to shift into their new positions. Once treatment is complete, you’ll have the healthy, beautiful smile you’ve always wanted.
Why Choose Invisalign?
Our Invisalign patients are thrilled with the system, both for its ease of use and its results. Invisalign isn’t right for everyone, but advances in the technology make it appropriate for more patients than ever before. Advantages of Invisalign over traditional metal braces include:
There are other clear plastic aligners on the market, but only Invisalign uses SmartTrack material. This high tech plastic is thin, unobtrusive, and virtually invisible. No one will suspect that you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment when they see you.
Comfort and Convenience
Metal braces are not always comfortable. Invisalign eliminates irritating brackets and wires, so they feel better on your teeth. Unlike braces, your aligners can be removed whenever you need to eat, brush, or floss, which makes life with Invisalign a lot more convenient.
In addition to its advanced SmartTrack material, Invisalign employs SmartForce features; combined, these patented technologies allow Invisalign to work as fast as, and sometimes even faster than, traditional braces. Invisalign can be used to treat crossbites, crowding, open-bites, overbites, underbites, and gapped teeth in a controlled manner. Treatment time is usually between 9 and 18 months when aligners are worn for the recommended 20 to 22 hours a day.
Invisalign Treatment Process
Although everyone’s Invisalign aligners are unique to them, the Invisalign treatment process is the same for almost every patient. It involves the following steps:
We use an iTero scanner to take images of your teeth and jaw, which allows us to make digital impressions. These impressions give us a precise model of your smile in 3D.
Creating a Treatment Plan and Preview
Invisalign software helps us create a customized treatment plan to give you the smile you’ve always wanted. Once we’ve created this plan, we can show you a preview on our computer detailing how your teeth will move as treatment progresses and what your smile will look like when it’s complete.
Making Your Aligners
Each set of custom aligners is fabricated using a state-of-the-art 3D printing process. Although your needs may vary, most patients require anywhere between 20 and 30 sets of aligners for their treatment.
Wearing Your Aligners
Because Invisalign aligners are not permanently affixed to your teeth like traditional metal braces, they need to be worn in order to work. This means wearing them for a minimum of 20 to 22 hours each day, removing them only to eat, brush, and floss.
Every few weeks, you’ll switch to a new set of aligners right at home. Then, every 6 to 8 weeks, you’ll visit our office so we can examine your teeth and jaw to make sure your treatment is on the right track and that your teeth are moving where we want them to be.
Maintaining Your Results
After your Invisalign treatment is complete, we will provide you with a set of custom-made retainers to help you maintain your results for a lifetime.
