Many of our patients want to know if Invisalign is right for them. While we can’t answer this question without seeing you in our office first, we can answer other common questions about Invisalign treatment here on our blog. Read on for our Invisalign FAQs and answers, and find out more about Invisalign in San Ramon on our website.
Who is a good candidate for Invisalign treatment?
Invisalign is a treatment option for adults and teenagers. Advancements in aligner technology mean that even complex bite issues can now be resolved with Invisalign. Because aligners need to be worn for at least 22 hours a day, we don’t recommend Invisalign as a treatment for young children.
How much does Invisalign cost?
Just like with traditional braces, the cost can vary from patient to patient depending on the complexity of your case and the length of treatment. Your dental insurance may cover the cost of Invisalign and we also offer financing options when needed. When you come in for a consultation, our billing manager will provide you with an estimate for your out-of-pocket costs.
Is Invisalign as effective as traditional metal braces?
We would never recommend Invisalign to a patient in a situation where we felt metal braces would be more effective. Every mouth is different, but you can rest assured that if we tell you Invisalign is an option for you, we believe they will perform just as well as metal braces.
What are the advantages of Invisalign?
Invisalign has many advantages over traditional braces, which is why more and more patients are opting for this treatment. Some of the advantages include:
- The ability to remove the aligners. This makes brushing and flossing easier, and also allows you to remove the aligners for special events.
- The aligners are practically invisible. Unless someone is standing very close to you, odds are they won’t even notice your aligners!
- There are no food restrictions. Unlike with traditional braces, you can eat anything you like–as long as you take your aligners out first, of course.
- No brackets or wires. Which means no emergency visits when a bracket falls out, no wires uncomfortably poking at your cheeks, and no visits for painful tightening.
What are the disadvantages of Invisalign?
There are some situations where Invisalign treatment takes a little bit longer than traditional braces. As we mentioned above, Invisalign is more expensive, and since Invisalign aligners are removable, they only work as long as you are wearing them as instructed.
How long can I expect treatment to last?
We work with Invisalign to come up with a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs. Each set of aligners will be worn for one to two weeks and most patients require between 20 and 30 sets. Most treatments last between 9 and 18 months.
How frequently will I need to check in with my dentist during Invisalign treatment?
You will check in with us every 4 to 6 weeks to make sure your treatment is on the right track.
How do I clean my aligners?
You can gently brush your aligners with your toothbrush and toothpaste, then rinse them in lukewarm water. We also offer an Invisalign Cleaning System to sanitize and remove plaque from your aligners. Never use hot water to clean your aligners, as it can warp the plastic.
What is the best way to maintain long-term results after Invisalign treatment?
We offer Invisalign Vivera retainers to maintain your results after you’ve finished with your aligners. Every patient is different, but we usually advise our patients to wear their retainers full-time at first, then gradually switch to wearing them only at night.
